Surface Features of the Earth
The Earth's surface is mainly made of massive plates that move slowly around the Earth. Going in depth about plates, there are three main ways they move. All of them have a different roles to play as the move differently.
1) The impact when two plates collide with each other one plate may go under the one which it collided with. This is basically how many trenches, volcanoes and other mountain ranges mountain ranges are formed under the oceans.
2) When two plates drift past each other, rifts, which are fairly steep valleys are formed. This process is called sea floor spreading in the oceans, and rift valleys on land.
3) When two plates slightly pass each other, faults occur. Some of the features such as volcanoes and earthquakes are formed and occur mainly along the plate boundaries. Most moons in our Solar System like ours have massive craters which are very rare in our planet.
